VOLUNTEERS:

Volunteers are the human resources that founded People In Motion in 1989 and they continue to be an integral part of who and what People In Motion is today. We are committed to providing volunteers with a volunteer experience that uses their talents, skills and gifts to best effect while respecting their restrictions/limitations as well. We ask that volunteers in turn honour our Mission Statement and values in the work they do for us. We believe that together we can do great things with, for and on behalf of people with disabilities. People In Motion has adopted the Canadian Code of Volunteer Involvement as a measure of the value we place on volunteerism.

Volunteer Opportunities are varied and have different requirements but all volunteers expressing interest in volunteering with People In Motion on a regular basis will undergo a volunteer screening process, which begins with completion of our Volunteer Application. The application will be reviewed and a staff member will follow up by contacting the volunteer applicant; an interview will be scheduled where we have an available position that matches the applicant's interests, skills and availability. Reference Checks and possibly an RCMP Criminal Record Check will follow that interview before the volunteer is offered and assigned to a volunteer position.

Once assigned, a volunteer will be provided with our Volunteer Handbook, a Volunteer Job Description for the position, and in most cases be oriented "on the job" to the new position by staff and possibly other volunteers. The Volunteer will also be required to sign a Volunteer Oath of Confidentiality. During the Volunteer's time with us we will offer opportunities for both formal and informal feedback.

We hope volunteers will feel appreciated each and every day that they volunteer for us but in addition to the informal forms of appreciation we can offer, volunteers can count on being invited to our Annual Christmas Party and to our special spring Volunteer Appreciation Event held annually just for our volunteers.
